Jeffrey D. Smith (Brown ’00) is a healthcare entrepreneur, writer, and the founder of Providence Medical Technology, where he spent over a decade building spinal surgery devices and navigating the intersection of engineering, medicine, and the human body.
A personal injury — a steel frame that slipped on an ordinary Tuesday — forced him to confront the limits of modular medicine and begin asking new questions about the living form. That inquiry became The Braided Man, a memoir-of-inquiry that follows a single question from wound to frontier science to the ancient body maps of meridians and nadis.
He is the founder of LymphEx and the International Academy of Lymphatic Medicine.
Jeff hosts The Unmet Need, a podcast exploring the frontiers of healthcare, fascia science, and the braided body. He is a father of four sons and lives in the East Bay hills of California.
The wound was mine. The question belongs to all of us.
